For a cousin's bridal shower, everyone was supposed to bring a copy of their favorite recipe to share with the bride-to-be. To help out, I volunteered to make the recipe box and a magnetic recipe card holder.
I got the plain recipe box from JoAnn's and used scrapbook paper and ModgePodge to decorate.
For the magnetic card holder I (had my husband) saw a slit into a block of wood. I painted the entire block and then ModgePodged a small paper scrap on the front. Then I added some flowers with glue dots. Then I (had my husband) cut a piece of sheet metal down to size and stick it in the slit. I used some wood glue to help it stay and then simply bent the metal back. Last, I used my Cricut to cut out the vinyl monograms and placed them on the metal. I added the initials to make it a cute display item even when a recipe isn't on it. You could also display a 4x6 picture instead of a recipe if your not into cooking.
I got those small glass pebbles for the magnets from Wal-Mart in the floral section. I ModgePodged random scraps of paper on the back and glued a magnet on the back. And that's it! All done!
